Be Reasonable

Especially When Carrying

Hi everyone!  I want to share a great resource, and encourage you to take a USCCA course.  As we travel around the country, many people ask questions about what it means to be a safe responsible gun owner. I want to take a minute and talk to you about that; especially since over 65% of our guests commit to buying firearms.  Many of you want the security that comes from being able to defend yourself and your family.  Did you know that even if you live in a state that has laws to protect you in that endeavor, you still may face adverse consequence of that split second decision in a life and death situation. It kind of sucks, but that is the reality we live in.  “Be reasonable,” you might say; and I say right back to you, “Exactly, be reasonable.”

Do you know what the “Reasonable Person Test” is?  It is an important element of carrying a firearm, and part of USCCA’s curriculum in their online course. During this class, the focus is on your first choice of self defense being to avoid or escape an event whenever possible. If you should have to defend yourself or those you love, then you very well could/will be judged against “The Reasonable Person Test”.

Christa Forrester

“The Reasonable Person Test is measurement tool used to assess whether someone’s actions or even lack of actions are reasonable. The key is understanding that a reasonable person is basically an ordinary person with sound rational judgement and behaviors.”

I’ve always known this, but not in terms of the reasonable person test; the course drives home the reason why in a different light.  Even if you live in a state that doesn’t require a course to carry a firearm concealed, I strongly encourage you to take a USCCA course.

Owning a gun is a right, but it also comes with responsibility.   I can’t stress to you enough to check out the USCCA courses, and find an instructor near you.  Not only will you learn great information, but you might also enjoy the camaraderie of your classmates; and take that next step on your journey to be a safe responsible gun owner.

Sincerely,

Karen Butler
